Kristina Gawrgy Named RFF Vice President for Communications

Resources for the Future (RFF) is pleased to introduce Kristina Gawrgy as its new Vice President for Communications. Gawrgy, the former Chief Communications and Community Building Officer at Independent Sector, will help increase RFF’s impact by leading the organization’s internal and external marketing and communications strategies.

Gawrgy has more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit management and media settings. At Independent Sector, she led communications and marketing, community building and engagement, and digital innovation. Her work focuses on storytelling and delivering results-driven strategies, including ensuring a focus on racial equity-centered initiatives.

“We’re thrilled that Kristina is joining our team,” RFF President and CEO Richard G. Newell said. “It was a competitive search, and her talent and experience rose to the top. Kristina is a seasoned professional who is well positioned to lead RFF’s communications team into the future.”

“I am excited to join RFF as it continues to provide impartial and critical research toward a healthy environment and thriving economy,” Gawrgy said. “Our future depends on ensuring that climate change no longer threatens our communities and I look forward to bringing my expertise and experience to bear toward that mission.”

Gawrgy previously served in communications leadership roles at the Parkinson’s Action Network (now part of the Michael J. Fox Foundation) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and as a reporter for the Gazette in Montgomery County, Maryland. She holds a BA in journalism and American studies from the University of Maryland and an MPS in public relations and corporate communications from Georgetown University.
