WASHINGTON—Yusuke Kuwayama, who recently received a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has joined Resources for the Future as its newest Fellow.

Kuwayama’s work focuses on tradable groundwater permits, adjusting for time lags and uncertainty in marketable permit design, and optimal groundwater policy in the case of contaminant dispersion. He also has been working on a principal-agent model of mitigation banks for ecosystem services.

“We are delighted to welcome Yusuke and look forward to the talent and expertise he brings on the economics of water, fisheries, and ecosystems,” said RFF Vice President for Research Molly Macauley.

Kuwayama’s research fields include environmental economics, natural resource economics, and public finance. He is affiliated with a number of organizations that promote research in environmental economics, including the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, the American Economic Association, and the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists.

In addition to receiving a Ph.D., Kuwayama also holds a Masters in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and an undergraduate degree in economics from Amherst College.
