WASHINGTON—Alan Krupnick, RFF Research Director and Senior Fellow, was recently honored by being named a 2010 Fellow of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE) during its summer conference in Seattle.

According to the AERE, the Fellows Program “recognizes outstanding contributions to the field by members of the association. The Awardees have demonstrated a significant contribution to the advancement of the profession of environmental and resource economics.” Krupnick is the 25th awardee since the program started in 2005.

For more than thirty years, Krupnick has championed the use of environmental economics research in policy. He founded and directs RFF’s Center for Energy Economics and Policy, and actively advises numerous federal and international agencies and committees.

“To be honored by one’s peers is the highest and most meaningful honor to me. I’d like to thank my colleagues, co-authors and friends, both at RFF and within this wonderful AERE community for their support, skills, humor, and all the other qualities that make it so great to go to work every day,” said Krupnick during the awards ceremony.

Krupnick has helped to guide academic research by appreciating the challenges of translating advanced economic research for the policy world. He also provides guidance and mentorship to young economists.

“For me it’s the thrill of discovering new facts and ideas and people, the thrill of the hunt—to see one’s ideas validated by funders, and service—helping others meet their professional goals, which I’ve been fortunate to be able to do in my over ten years as Research Director at RFF,” he said.
